The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Randall County will offer a Cotton Insurance and Marketing Workshop Feb. 12 at the Kuhlman Extension Center, 200 N. Brown Road, Canyon.

The meeting will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The fee is $10, and a light meal will be served. An RSVP is requested by Feb. 8 to the AgriLife Extension office in Randall County at 806-468-5543.

“Cotton insurance and its ties and regulations to the new farm bill have several changes that producers will need to consider in making their cotton insurance decisions,” said J. D. Ragland, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent in Randall County.

“The cotton market sometimes seems to be a roller-coaster, so our goal is to educate producers to learn and recognize opportunities within the market to maximize their profitability.”

Three general Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered.

Instructors will be John Robinson, AgriLife Extension cotton marketing economist, College Station; DeDe Jones, AgriLife Extension risk management specialist, Amarillo; and Kathy Fowler, Proud to Farm Insurance, Memphis.

They will discuss developing a cotton marketing plan, farm bill updates, insurance, marketing strategies to implement and tying everything together.

For more information, contact Ragland at jd.ragland@ag.tamu.edu or the AgriLife Extension office in Randall County.
