The combined sales volume at Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Jan. 14 totaled 13,400 head of cattle, compared with 5,400 head last week and 4,900 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, WY.

At Wyoming auctions, feeder cattle had no good price comparison, but a higher undertone was noted. Direct sales were unevenly steady to $2 higher. Steers accounted for approximately 56% and heifers 44% of the feeder supply. Supply included 60% over 600 pounds, with the direct trade accounting for 5,500 head of the weekly total.

Direct sales, 500 to 550 lbs., 98.00 to 100.00; 625 to 650 lbs., 90.00 to 93.00; 725 to 750 lbs., 84.50 to 90.50; 800 to 875 lbs., 83.00 to 87.00.
