KANSAS CITY (B)--The Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration is tightening its scales and weighing regulations to include the weighing of feed whenever it affects payment or settlement to a livestock or poultry grower.

An announcement in the Federal Register said the amendment to GIPSA regulations is expected to provide livestock and poultry growers with a measure of assurance that feed weight is accurately or reasonably determined.

Current regulations do not contain any requirements regarding the weighing of feed although, in some circumstances, feed weight affects payment or settlement to livestock growers and poultry growers. The new regulations are to go into effect May 5.
