The Syracuse Commission Co., Syracuse, KS, reported receipts totaling 1,466 head of cattle Feb. 23, compared to 1,583 head last week and 949 head last year, according to the Federal-State USDA Market News Service, Dodge City, KS.

Compared to last week, feeder steers 300 to 500 pounds were not tested; 500 to 600 pounds, $8 higher; 600 to 800 pounds, $1 to $4 higher; 800 to 900 pounds, not tested. Feeder heifers 300 to 550 pounds were $3 to $6 higher; 550 to 800 pounds, $1 to $3 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were $4 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 40% over 600 pounds, 37% less than 600 pounds and 23% cows and bulls, with 340 head early. The feeder supply was composed of 31% steers and 69% heifers.

Replacement cows: Middle aged, bred, 560.00 to 800.00 (752.57); aged, bred, 510.00; middle aged, pairs, 625.00 to 900.00 (845.14); aged, pairs, 700.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers and Boners, 75 to 85% lean, 46.00 to 53.00 (48.91). Lean, 85 to 90%, 40.00 to 45.75 (43.90); low dressing, 36.00 to 39.00 (37.67).

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 56.00 to 62.50 (59.13); low dressing, 53.00 to 55.00 (54.00).
