The St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., St. Onge, SD, reported receipts of 1,405 head Feb. 22, compared to 2,552 head last week and 266 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, SD.

Today's bred cow special brought very few feeders; therefore, there was no trend set. Slaughter cows were steady to $3 higher than last week. Slaughter bulls were too few to establish a trend. Bred cows and heifers were 78% of run, slaughter cattle 10%, heiferettes and feeder cows 8% and feeder calves 4% of the run. There were a large number of buyers for the bred cows and heifers.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 464 lbs., 100.00; 34 head, 594 lbs., 87.50; 7 head, 686 lbs., 80.50.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1015 to 1860 lbs., 40.50 to 44.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1025 to 1595 lbs., 40.00 to 44.00; high dressing, 1110 to 1335 lbs., 44.50 to 46.00.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1, 2 years old, 68.50 to 79.00; heiferettes, 49.00 to 67.00; feeder cows, 42.50 to 47.50. Bred heifers and cows were mostly black March calvers per head. Most cows and heifers were large frame 1. First calf heifers, 924 to 1060 lbs., 835.00 to 895.00; 26 head, 1081 lbs., 920.00. Young cows, 212 head, 1033 to 1239 lbs., 850.00 to 920.00. Middle-aged cows, 47 head, 1256 to 1342 lbs., 790.00 to 860.00. Short-term cows, 183 head, 1189 to 1530 lbs., 640.00 to 690.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1405 to 1945 lbs., 50.50 to 53.75; couple, low dressing, 46.50 to 49.50.
