CHICAGO (B)--Closely watched private analysts Sparks Cos. of Memphis, TN, have estimated the U.S. 2000 winter wheat crop at 1.616 billion bushels, 33 million below the U.S. Department of Agriculture's May forecast, industry sources said. United States Department of Agriculture will issue an updated winter wheat crop estimate June 9.

Sources said Sparks used a hard red winter wheat crop of 943 million bushels, soft red winter of 444 million and white winter crop of 229 million.

In May, USDA's class breakdowns for wheat production were 976 million bushels for HRW, 445 million for SRW and 228 million for white.
