The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, KS, reported receipts of 4,588 head of cattle Jan. 6, compared to 1,217 head last sale and 2,738 head last year, according to the Federal-State USDA Market News Service, Dodge City, KS.

Feeder steers 400 to 600 pounds were $4 to $6 higher; 600 to 800 pounds, $2 to $4 higher; 800 to 1,000 pounds, $1 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers 400 to 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher; 600 to 800 pounds, $1 to $2 higher, 800 to 950 pounds, steady. Slaughter cows were steady. Trade was very active. Demand was excellent. Receipts included 78% 600 pounds and over, 22% 600 pounds and under and less than 1% cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 65% steers and 35% heifers.
