Purebred swine breeders, from 20 states, gathered in Austin, MN for the 56th National Barrow Show, at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

On Sept. 10, the Duroc and Landrace entries were shown and sold. Dr. Gordon Jones, and his son Bart Jones, Lafayette, TN, evaluated the 71 Duroc boar and gilt entries. Howard Parrish, Edon, OH, auctioneered the Duroc sale, which totaled $27,825 on 40 head averaging $695.63.

In the Landrace show, Kevin Ellis, Danville, KY, sorted the 17 gilt and boar entries. The champion Landrace boar, exhibited by Hoewischer Farms, Inc., Sidney, OH, sold for $600 to Delbert Broek, Sioux Center, IA. Parrish sold the Landrace sale, which totaled $3, 205 on nine head.
