Larry Powell, Kalvesta, a farmer-rancher, has filed for the Republican nomination to the 117th House District seat being vacated by the retiring House Speaker Robin Jennison.

"I am concerned government is too intrusive in our lives," said Powell. "If elected, I would work to lower taxes and to protect individual rights from government intervention."

Powell owns the Powell Angus Ranch with his wife, Myrna. They have one son, Kent, 27. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Kansas Angus Association and is a member of the Kansas Livestock Association.

Powell is a lifelong resident of rural Finney County and a fourth generation farmer in the area.
