The OKC West Livestock Market, Inc., El Reno, OK, reported estimated receipts of 2,500 head of cattle Sept. 27, compared with 3,079 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, OK.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1 to $2 higher, in a light test. Feeder heifers were not well tested. Demand was good for feeders. Some positives finally have moved back into the market. Fat cattle have started a slow trek up and buyers are realizing that numbers of available feeder cattle are quickly dwindling. Steer calves were steady. Heifer calves were steady to $3 lower, with the most decline on weights over 500 pounds. Demand was moderate for calves. Quality was mostly plain. Weighups were average to full. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy condition; calves, mostly heavy flesh.

Supply consisted of 45% yearlings over 600 pounds, 48% calves and light yearlings under 600 pounds and 7% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 34% of feeder and calf supply. Slaughter cows and bulls were 50 cents to $1 lower. Packer demand was moderate. A total of 175 cows and bulls sold, with 55% going to packers.
