St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 431 head March 4, compared to 650 head last week and 225 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, receipts were light, however a lower undertone was noted on slaughter ewes. Receipts included about 40% slaughter ewes, 36% replacement ewes and 24% feeder lambs.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 10 head, 62 lbs., 130.00; 72 to 75 lbs., 128.50 to 130.00 (129.63); 20 head, 123 lbs., 102.00.

Slaughter ewes: Wooled, 82 head, Good, Yield grade 2 and 3, 162 lbs., 37.00; 41 head, Utility, Yield grade 1 and 2, 141 lbs., 36.50; 36 head, Cull, Yield grade 1, 135 lbs., 29.00.

Replacement whiteface ewes: Wooled, Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 97 head, short term, bred whiteface, lamb April 5, 160 lbs., 94.00 to 100.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, shorn, 12 head, solid-short term, bred crossbred, lamb April 1, 180 lbs., 121.00. Medium frame 1 and 2, Wooled, 24 head short term, bred whiteface, lamb April 5, 143 lbs., 80.00.
