Approximately 300 youths, along with their families, friends and approximately 390 head of show cattle will converge on Kearney, NE, July 13-18, for the 23rd Annual American Junior Simmental (AJSA) National Classic to be held at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.

Organizers expect that the event will bring in over 1,000 people associated with the various educational contests and cattle show competition. Twenty-seven states will be represented. Diane Duren, Nebraska Simmental Association's Executive Director, serves as the overall event coordinator.

American Junior Simmental youths, ages 8 to 21, will compete for prizes and trophies in various competitions ranging from Sales Talk Competition and Advertising/Promotion Contests to Judging and Showmanship Contests to Public Speaking and Beef Bowl Contests. Each contest, along with Showmanship, is divided into a junior and a senior division.

The National Classic XXIII relies heavily on businesses, associations and individual sponsorships to provide these opportunities for the youths involved with raising and showing animals. It also requires many volunteers to run this Sunday through Friday event. This is a unique event in which Simmental breeders from the East Coast to the West Coast will come together to offer their juniors additional educational and recreational opportunities.

The Nebraska Simmental Association with its 100 plus members, along with their junior association have donated their time and money to help bring this AJSA National Classic to Nebraska.

Diamond Level sponsors are: Cargill Animal Nutrition, Sioux City, IA; ABS Global, Inc., DeForest, Wl; Gateway Simmentals, Lewiston, Montana; and Triple C Farms Simmentals, Maple Plain, MN.

Diamond level sponsors meet the requirements of donating $1,000 or more.
