The number of cattle on feed Feb. 1, in Kansas feedlots with 1,000 head or more capacity, totaled 2.34 million head, up 15% from a year ago and 1% above the number on hand Jan. 1, 2000, according to Kansas Agricultural Statistics.

Placements during January totaled 520,000 head, up 24% from a year ago and 30% above December, 1999, placements of 400,000 head.

Marketings during January totaled 480,000 head, 2% below January, 1999, and the same as December, 1999.

Other disappearance was 10,000 head, unchanged from a year ago and the previous month.

The percentage of January placements by weight was: under 600 pounds, 19%; 600 to 699 pounds, 37%; 700 to 799 pounds, 33%; and 800 pounds or heavier, 11%.
