The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, MO, reported receipts of 10,000 head of cattle Jan. 17, compared to 11,201 head last week and 9,023 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, MO.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers were $2 to $4 lower, with most sales under 400 pounds fully steady. Steers made up approximately 53% of the run and heifers 40%. Offerings over 600 pounds totaled about 39% of the supply. Demand was uneven. Quality was not as good as last week.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 107.00 to 128.00, lot 304 lbs., 134.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 100.00 to 116.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 100.00 to 110.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 92.50 to 100.00, fancy, 101.00 to 104.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 86.00 to 97.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 82.75 to 90.50; 800 to 860 lbs., 80.50 to 85.50; lot, 904 lbs., 77.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, including bulls, 400 to 500 lbs., 90.00 to 99.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 80.00 to 91.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 77.00 to 85.50. Holsteins, large frame 2, 370 to 500 lbs., 74.00 to 79.00; 580 to 680 lbs., 68.00 to 72.75; 700 to 750 lbs., 66.25 to 69.00; 800 to 890 lbs., 63.50 to 67.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 97.00 to 106.50, few, fancy, 107.00 to 108.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 88.50 to 98.50, fancy, 99.00 to 101.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 85.00 to 90.50, lot, fancy, 95.00, fleshy, 81.00 to 84.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 78.25 to 88.00; 700 to 725 lbs., 77.00 to 84.00; 770 to 850 lbs., 70.75 to 76.25.
