There were 1.075 million cattle on feed for the slaughter market in all feedlots in Iowa on May 1. The lots with a capacity of 1,000 head or more had 370,000 head on feed, down 1% from last month and up 6% from last year, while the lots with a capacity of less than 1,000 head had 705,000 head on feed, down 5% from April 1 and down 1% from a year ago.

Placements during April totaled 117,000 head, down 20% from March. Feedlots of over 1,000 head placed 40,000 head, down 30 % from last month and down 5% from April 1999. Feedlots of less than a 1,000 head placed 77,000 head, down 14% from last month. Marketings for April totaled 136,000 head, down 10% from March.

Feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 head or more marketed 44,000 head, down 21% from last month and down 12% from a year earlier, while feedlots of less than a 1,000 head marketed 92,000 head, down 3% from March. Other disappearance totaled 26,000 head.
