The High Plains area weighted average direct slaughter cattle sales report for the week ending Aug. 19 totaled 219,792 head, compared with 161,307 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, St. Joseph, MO.

The report covered Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota feedlots.

Slaughter steers: Live basis, over 80% Choice, 5,514 head, 1267 lbs., 71.03; 65 to 80% Choice, 10,854 head, 1302 lbs., 70.61; 35 to 65% Choice, 42,453 head, 1273 lbs., 69.91; 1 to 35% Choice, 7,084 head, 1257 lbs., 69.84. Dressed basis, over 80% Choice, 3,130 head, 806 lbs., 112.07; 65 to 80% Choice, 15,466 head, 818 lbs., 112.34; 35 to 65% Choice, 819 lbs., 111.52; 1 to 35% Choice, 764 lbs., 109.29.

Slaughter heifers: Live basis, over 80% Choice, 3,164 head, 1158 lbs., 70.87; 65 to 80% Choice, 8,668 head, 1172 lbs., 70.67; 35 to 65% Choice, 37,725 head, 1142 lbs., 70.09; 1 to 35% Choice, 419 head, 1125 lbs., 70.00.
