Burke Healey, Southern Cross Ranch, Davis, was named Cattleman of the Year for 2000, at the 48th annual Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association convention, held recently, according to Scott Dewald, executive vice president.

"Healey is a charter and life member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and has devoted his life to the improvement of the beef cattle industry," Dewald said.

Healey has served as chairman of Oklahoma State University board of regents and was honored as a Graduate of Distinction. He served as president of Beef Improvement Federation, as president of the Oklahoma Hereford Association and is a charter member of Oklahoma Beef Incorporated. Healey also received the OCA Distinguished Service Award for his input in developing guidelines for the Oklahoma Certified Feeder Calf Program, a preconditioned calf marketing program, which will be introduced in the future.

"Healey is the 11th cattleman honored as the OCA Cattleman of the Year, and had its first honoree in 1990. Previous winners serve on the selection committee," Dewald says.
