Nebraska
Gov. Mike Johanns and some of Nebraska's favorite celebrities will try their hand in the show arena during the, fourth annual Governor's Celebrity Cattle Show, Sunday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m., in the Youth Complex Arena.
The event is a fund-raiser for 4-H and FFA. It will feature the governor and first lady, local radio and television personalities, coaches, athletes and state officials. Each celebrity will exhibit a steer, in a Showmanship Contest. Proceeds from the show support 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors at the county and state levels. Last year, nearly $22,000 was raised for both youth programs.
"The Celebrity Cattle Show offers Nebraskans an opportunity to support a traditional and fundamental element of the state fair--the 4-H and FFA livestock exhibition," Johanns said. "Sponsors, celebrities, the state fair and the 4-H and FFA organizations are coming together to make this fun and charitable event possible."
Charlie Thomas, KZKX Radio, in Lincoln, will serve as master of ceremonies for the show. Judges will be Dr. Keith Gilster, University of Nebraska Animal Science Department, and Merlyn Carlson, director of agriculture. Celebrities will exhibit their steer, with the help of a 4-H or FFA member, be interviewed on their showmanship skills and answer agricultural-related trivia. Several less-than-serious prizes will be awarded, at the end of the evening.
For a list of confirmed celebrities and other up-to-date information on this show, contact the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, at 800-422-6692.
