The Ft. Pierre livestock auction reported receipts of 2,589 head of cattle March 10, compared to 3,386 head last week and 4,262 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Fort Pierre, SD.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $1 higher. Demand was good. There was good buyer attendance. Cattle quality was high. Many carrying thin flesh condition sold in numerous load lots. Receipts were reduced sharply, due to winter weather in the surrounding areas. Supply included all feeder cattle. Feeder steers comprised 65% of the run and heifers 35%. Around 75% of the cattle weighed over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 483 to 487 lbs., 114.00 to 116.50 (116.00); 539 to 545 lbs., 104.50 to 108.00 (105.25); 569 to 584 lbs., 100.00 to 107.00 (104.87); 611 to 645 lbs., 94.00 to 100.75 (99.42); 651 to 696 lbs., 90.00 to 96.75 (94.49); 708 to 748 lbs., 87.50 to 91.50 (89.36); fancy, 719 to 728 lbs., 93.00; 763 to 781 lbs., 84.50 to 87.75 (85.80); 839 to 840 lbs., 80.50 to 80.75 (80.52); fancy, 63 head, 817 lbs., 86.75.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 370 to 392 lbs., 102.00 to 108.00 (105.25); 468 to 479 lbs., 103.50 to 106.50 (104.99); 28 head, fancy, 480 lbs., 108.00; 512 to 547 lbs., 97.00 to 102.00 (101.34); 554 to 597 lbs., 91.50 to 97.00 (96.13); fancy, 558 to 568 lbs., 105.00 to 105.00 (105.00); 609 to 647 lbs., 88.00 to 95.00 (90.66); 14 head, 666 lbs., 83.75; 709 to 737 lbs., 78.75 to 84.00 (81.23); 12 head, 759 lbs., 79.75; 5 head, 804 lbs., 75.00.
