The Ft. Pierre livestock auction reported receipts of 2,589 head of cattle March 10, compared to 3,386 head last week and 4,262 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Fort Pierre, SD.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $1 higher. Demand was good. There was good buyer attendance. Cattle quality was high. Many carrying thin flesh condition sold in numerous load lots. Receipts were reduced sharply, due to winter weather in the surrounding areas. Supply included all feeder cattle. Feeder steers comprised 65% of the run and heifers 35%. Around 75% of the cattle weighed over 600 pounds.
