The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Fort Pierre, S.D., reported receipts of 5,903 head Jan. 7, compared to 3,097 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Trends were not applicable due to the holiday break, however a large interested crowd gathered for the sale. Demand was good on all classes, especially for those above 750 pounds. Calves in medium to fleshy conditions. The sale consisted of 62% steers, 38% heifers, with 86% over 600 pounds.
