One of the largest activities that Oklahoma FFA members excel in is the area of livestock exhibition.

Drew Elwell, newly elected treasurer of the Fairview FFA Chapter, has chosen livestock as his area of emphasis. He shows Chianiana Crossbred steers. He is an upcoming senior, at Fairview High School.

Showing livestock is a huge task that teaches responsibility and dedication. Elwell spends several hours each week washing, blow drying and combing the hair on his animals. This extra attention pays dividends in the show ring. He has participated in local, county, district, state, regional and national shows. His Supervised Agricultural Experience Program also allows him to work at the veterinary clinic, in Fairview.

Elwell also participates in many leadership activities in the FFA. He has attended state convention for the past three years, as well as attending national convention, at Kansas City, MO, and Louisville, KY. He also attended Alumni Camp, where he learned valuable goal setting skills and public relation skills.

Elwell's years of hard work paid off for him in April, at the State FFA Convention, in Oklahoma City. He applied for a proficiency award in the area of diversified livestock and received third place in the state.

After high school, Elwell plans to attend Oklahoma State University and pursue a agricultural related occupation.
