The National Farmers Organization and Dairy Farmers of America, Inc., announced that a tentative agreement has been reached between DFA and NFO regarding collective marketing of member's milk.
"The discussions have been positive, with tentative agreement reached on most of the important issues," said Gary Hanman, president and chief executive officer of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. Under terms of the agreement, DFA and NFO will enter into a management agreement for the marketing of NFO milk to its' customer base, designed to increase efficiencies and decrease operating costs.
"The agreement between NFO and DFA will assist in providing long-term stability for NFO members and our customers through this common agency," said Rodger Schlottach, National Farmers dairy director. "Very little will change for NFO members under the agreement. NFO will continue to service its membership and the customers we presently supply will continue to be supplied under the DFA-NFO agreement."
The discussions between the major milk suppliers are ongoing, and no details are available at this time. "It is our hope to have this agreement finalized in the very near future, with the common marketing agreement and management functions beginning shortly thereafter," said Paul Olson, National Farmers Organization president. "This is another step in the process of providing maximum market stability and price level to all dairy producers."
Herman Brubaker, chairman of the DFA board of directors, said the reason for DFA's formation is the same today as when it came into existence, to maximize all market opportunities for the betterment of all dairy farmers and the member owners of DFA. "The open and positive discussions and agreement on major issues with NFO fits nicely into DFA's objectives of price improvement, market security and stability," he emphasized.
