The Cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, Dec. 8, reported receipts of 800 head, compared to 1,787 head last week and 1,595 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers were mostly steady to weak in a limited test. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Trade was active and demand moderate to good. The bulk of the supply were medium and large frame 1 and 2, 450- to 750-pound steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 95%, slaughter cows and bulls 5% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 62%, heifers 38%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled around 51%.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, lot 389 lbs., weaned 157.00; 425 to 475 lbs., 137.00 to 140.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 119.00 to 128.00, lot 523 lbs., weaned 131.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 116.00 to 119.00, load 698 lbs., value enhanced 120.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 113.00 to 115.75, package 720 lbs., calves 112.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, lot 387 lbs., 123.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 121.00 to 136.00; lot 630 lbs., 115.50; package 747 lbs., 111.00, package 723 lbs., calves 106.00; package 888 lbs., 95.50. Medium and large frame 2, 550 to 600 lbs., 110.00; package 679 lbs., 110.50; package 717 lbs., 102.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, lot 381 lbs., weaned 129.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 118.00 to 126.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 116.00; package 655 lbs., 109.00; load 736 lbs., 106.50; few 800 to 850 lbs., 96.00 to 100.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 400 to 475 lbs., 115.00 to 117.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1700 lbs., 45.50 to 47.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 44.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 lbs., 49.25, individual. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 42.00 to 44.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1150 to 2100 lbs., 65.00, few; high yielding, 2305 lbs., 65.50, individual.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, middle-aged to aged, 1050 to 1400 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 530.00 to 650.00 per head.
