The Clovis Livestock Auction Co. reported estimated receipts of 2,400 head of cattle Jan. 24, compared with 912 head last week and 1,534 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Clovis, NM.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers were steady. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 to $4 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. Bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and feeder heifers. Feeder steers and feeder heifers under 600 pounds were 45% of the supply, over 600 pounds 20% and 35% cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of approximately 55% steers and 45% heifers.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 6 years old, 6 to 9 months bred, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 750.00 to 875.00; aged, 6 to 9 months bred, 700 to 1100 lbs., 450.00 to 750.00; 3 to 6 years old, 3 to 6 months bred, 900 to 1200 lbs., 600.00 to 700.00; aged, 3 to 6 months bred, 700 to 1000 lbs., 350.00 to 600.00 per head.

Cow-calf pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 6 years old, 900 to 1100 lbs., with 50- to 300-lb. calf at side, 700.00 to 770.00; aged, 700 to 1000 lbs., with 50- to 250-lb. calf at side, 550.00 to 700.00 per pair.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 2100 lbs., 51.00 to 58.25; low yielding, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 45.00 to 51.25.
