The Clovis Livestock Auction Co., Clovis, NM, reported receipts of 1,500 head or cattle Aug. 16, compared with 1,006 head last week and 878 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Clovis, NM.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 500 pounds were $2 to $3 lower, over 500 pounds, $2 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers under 500 pounds were steady; over 500 pounds, steady to $1 higher. Slaughter cows were steady to firm. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. Bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2 200- to 800-pound feeder steers and 600- to 800-pound feeder heifers. The supply included 35% under 600 pounds, 30% over 600 pounds and around 35% cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of approximately 52% steers and 48% heifers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 2145 lbs., 51.00 to 55.50; 1000 to 1700 lbs., 45.00 to 50.50.
