The Clovis Livestock Auction Co. reported receipts of 1,375 head of cattle Dec. 15, compared with 2,406 head last week and 1,522 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Clovis, NM.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $2 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers were $1 to $3 higher. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were $4 to $5 higher. Bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2 300- to 700-pound feeder steers and 300- to 700-pound heifers. Trade was active. Demand was good. The supply included 35% under 600 pounds, 25% over 600 pounds and 40% cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of approximately 60% steers and 40% heifers.

Stock cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 1000 lbs., 43.00 to 50.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle aged, 900 to 1200 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 375.00 to 530.00, mostly 425.00 to 530.00; middle aged, 700 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 300.00 to 500.00, mostly 400.00 to 500.00 per head.

Cow-calf pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle aged, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 50- to 200-lb. calf at side, 400.00 to 700.00, mostly 600.00 to 70.00 per pair.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 2000 lbs., 45.00 to 51.50; low yielding, 1000 to 1900 lbs., 38.00 to 45.00.

Breeding bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 800 to 1100 lbs., 49.00 to 57.00.
