South Dakota's 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 215,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on May 1, according to the USDA's South Dakota Ag Statistics Service. The May 1 number is unchanged from a month earlier and up 35,000 head from a year ago. Placements during April totaled 27,000 head, down 16,000.
