Members of Beefmaster Breeders United (BBU) held their annual convention, in Broomfield, CO.
Major awards were presented honoring outstanding service to the breed and association. The following awards were presented.
The 2001 Breeder of the Year went to Bradley's Circle J Beefmasters, Groesbeck, TX. Owner James Bradley Sr. was presented the award. Bradley has been a member of BBU since 1986 and is a merit breeder, a past treasurer of BBU and recently retired from the board of directors. He hosts an annual production sale.
Carl Hubble, Hubble Land & Cattle, Bellville, TX, was presented the 2001 Member of the Year. Hubble joined BBU in 1985 and has been involved in supporting the Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association, South Texas Children's Home and the E6 Beefmaster Commercial Female Program. He was one of the leading driving forces behind creation of the Nolan Ryan's Tender Aged Beef Program and is chairman of Beefmaster Cattlemen, LP. He is a past president of BBU and a former member of the board of directors.
2001 New Member of the Year was awarded to Hickory Ridge Farms, owned by the Mike Wilkins family, Russellville, AR. Wilkins has been heavily involved in supporting Beefmaster youths and worked with the University of Arkansas helping them establish a purebred herd and universities in Texas and Auburn researching Beefmaster sires. He has hosted field days, supported South Texas and Christ Haven Children's Homes and actively worked with several satellites.
