On Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Washington County Fairgrounds, in Akron, CO, the Washington County Stockman's Association will be hosting an educational seminar, steak fry, banquet, pen-of-three show and will receive cattle for the Pride of the Plains Range to Rail Feeding contest.

The banquet will begin at 6 p.m., with the steak fry. A short business meeting will follow. At 7 p.m., Dave Pratt, Ranch Management Consultants, Inc., will discuss their Ranching for Profit Program that has helped thousands of farm and ranch families around the world increase profit, improve their land, build effective management teams, prepare the next generation for management responsibility and effectively tackle dozens of other issues. The Ranching for Profit Program will show people how to take control of their business and their lives. Cost of the meal and speaker are $20 per person. No pre-registration is required.

Preceding the banquet and educational program, the pen-of-three show will start receiving cattle at 8 a.m., with the show starting at 1 p.m. Other items relative to the pen show are:

--Classes will be for commercial steers, market heifers, replacement heifers and bulls.

--Cattle must be shown loose.

--No fitting is allowed.

--Cattle must be born after Jan. 1, 2001.

--A three-judge panel will be used.

--Entry fee is $50 per pen.

In addition, the Washington County Stockmans Pride of the Plains Range to Rail Feeding Contest will be receiving cattle the day of the show. Anyone interested is encouraged to enter a calf. Valuable knowledge regarding rate of gain and carcass performance is gained from this educational, yet fun, event!.
