WASHINGTON (B)--U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky left Oct. 10 for a trip to China to discuss with Zhu Rongji and senior trade officials China's stalled negotiations to join the World Trade Organization, a USTR spokeswoman told BridgeNews.

At WTO headquarters in Geneva, diplomatic talks on completing the final agreement under which China would enter the WTO have stalled recently, and diplomats have called for political intervention. The news comes on the day that President Clinton signed into law a bill normalizing trade relations with China on a permanent basis.
