The Amarillo Livestock Auction summary totaled 1,693 head Aug. 15, compared to 1,709 head last week and 2,048 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, TX.

Compared to last week, on a limited test, feeder steers and heifers were steady. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $2 lower. Trade and demand were moderate. Feeder cattle accounted for 96% and slaughter cows and bulls 4% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 49% of the run and heifers 51%. Steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 37% of the supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, package, 255 lbs., 135.00; small lot, 365 lbs., 116.50; package, 416 lbs., 111.00; small lot, 634 lbs., 90.00. Steers and bulls, medium and large frame 1 and 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 110.00 to 113.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 90.00 to 100.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 84.00 to 91.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 82.50 to 87.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 78.00 to 84.90; small lot, 802 lbs., 78.50. Small and medium frame 1 and 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 92.00 to 100.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 84.00 to 93.00; few, 500 to 600 lbs., 81.00 to 83.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package, 295 lbs., 113.50; few, 300 to 350 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00; small lot, 460 lbs., 97.00; few, 500 to 600 lbs., 86.25 to 86.75; few, 600 to 700 lbs., 83.75 to 86.50. Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 38.00 to 42.00; high yielding, 1150 to 1350 lbs., 43.50 to 45.00. Lean, 85 to 90%, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 35.00 to 38.75; 800 to 1000 lbs., 30.00 to 33.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1275 to 1450 lbs., 46.75 to 48.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, young to middle aged, 1025 to 1150 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, 450.00 to 590.00 per head.

Cow-calf pairs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, individual, young, 1050 lbs., with 275-lb. calf, 935.00.
