The Amarillo Livestock Auction Co. reported receipts of 1,709 head of cattle Aug. 8, compared with 2,137 head last week and 1,800 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, TX.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate. Feeder cattle accounted for 95% and slaughter cows and bulls 5% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 33% and heifers 67%. Steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 34% of the supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, few, 425 to 450 lbs., 105.00 to 107.50; few, 700 to 711 lbs., 87.50 to 88.25; part load, 811 lbs., 86.50. Steers and bulls, medium and large frame 1 to 2, package, 398 lbs., 110.00; 400 to 475 lbs., 95.00 to 95.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 86.00 to 90.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 82.00 to 87.50; small lot, 741 lbs., 83.00; package, 878 lbs., 75.20. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, small lot, 364 lbs., 100.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 90.00 to 93.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 84.50. Large frame 2, Holsteins, small lot, 550 lbs., 66.50; package, 873 lbs., 62.75.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 41.50 to 43.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 38.00 to 43.00; high yielding, 1150 to 1350 lbs., 43.75 to 46.00. Lean, 85 to 90%, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 36.50 to 39.00; 800 to 1000 lbs., 30.50 to 34.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1550 to 2025 lbs., 48.00 to 50.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle aged, 1000 to 1150 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, 550.00 to 695.00 per head; middle aged to aged, 950 to 1100 lbs., 2 to 8 months bred, 360.00 to 520.00 per head.

Cow-calf pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 1050 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calf, 750.00 to 795.00 per pair.
