NEW TRACTORS DEBUT--The new Versatile 250 and Versatile 280, powered by the Cummins QSC 8.3-liter, have more power than the Buhler Genesis 2180 and 2210 they replace. Versatile is a division of Buhler Industries, Inc. The Versatile 280 with the Cummins QSC 8.3-liter has 280 engine horsepower and 225 PTO horsepower, while the Versatile 250 has 200 PTO horsepower and 250 engine horsepower. This high-pressure common-rail injection engine replaces the European 7.5-liter Genesis engine. Featuring more displacement and modern technology, the QSC will offer smooth power delivery, faster engine response and less vibration. The new Versatile 250 and 280 have a slightly wider hood with a larger capacity cooling system to suit Tier III engines. An external muffler provides more room under the hood and allows for better heat dissipation. Geared for peak field operation, the 18-speed full powershift transmission includes many features. For more information, call a local Versatile dealer, or visit www.versatile-ag.com.
SEED TENDER USES SEMI-VAN TRAILER--Hoffmann Midwest, Inc., Waterloo, Ill., introduces the new Trailer Conveyor System, which mounts directly under the belly of a standard 53-foot (102-inch wide) van trailer. The trailer is pulled by a farmer's single- or tandem-axle semi truck using a fifth wheel hitch. The conveyor includes a floor grate and inside the trailer, the farmer simply places a bulk seed box via a pallet jack or jumbo bag over the grate to flow directly into the conveyor. And because a van trailer is roomier than a seed tender, it enables the farmer to bring up to 11 bulk seed boxes into the field at one time. The conveyor rotates out from under the trailer via one of the three external control stations that are always in easy reach of the operator. The controls also allow the operator to control seed flow. Hoffman's Trailer Conveyor System can fill most planters without having to reposition the trailer or planter. DISC CHISEL DISC--The new 2210 Disc Chisel Disc from Landoll, Marysville, Kan., will size and incorporate heavy residue while removing yield robbing compaction, yet leaves the surface level behind the machine. The new 2210 tackles today's toughest hybrids, leaving the residue in the best position for accelerated decomposition. Adjustable gang angles front and rear, combined with hydraulic gang heights, allow the operator to fine tune the unit for desired performance. Available in 9,11,13 and 15 shank models, with the 13 and 15 featuring folding rear gangs for reduced transport widths. All units feature single point depth control, heavy-duty trunnion style bearings on the front and rear gangs, walking tandems, and grease free bushings in the rockshaft area. New herbicide available for 2009 cotton season
MANA Crop Protection, Raleigh, N.C., introduces Pyrimax 3.2SL cotton herbicide for the 2009 season to provide broad-spectrum control of tough weeds, including those resistant to glyphosate.
"Pyrimax can be used pre- or post-emergence, offering over-the-top application flexibility," said Dave Downing, senior marketing manager for MANA. "Pyrimax contains pyrithiobac-sodium, the same active ingredient in Staple herbicide, and is the preferred tank mix partner for MANA's Cotoran 4L herbicide."
Pyrimax stops cell division in targeted weeds and is the answer for several broadleaf weeds that glyphosate no longer controls. It may be applied by ground or aerial application, though aerial is prohibited in Arizona. Pyrimax is not currently labeled for use in California, but expected in time for the 2010 season.
Pyrimax may be used on a full range of cotton varieties, though caution is urged if Pyrimax is used post-emergence on Pima varieties.
"Pyrimax 3.2SL controls some very rugged weeds, like morningglory, smartweed, jimsonweed, pigweed, prickly sida, spotted spurge, spurred anoda and velvetleaf, as well as several others targeted on the label," explained Downing. "It also can be used to suppress lambsquarters, barnyardgrass, fall panicum and giant foxtail.
