FROST ALARM SYSTEM--Onset Computer Corporation unveils the HOBO U30 Frost Alarm System, a web-based monitoring system. The solar-powered system enables growers to view real-time field conditions during frost events from any web browser, and set up frost alarms that automatically turn on irrigation pumps, wind machines and other frost-abatement equipment. The system can also send growers instant notification of when frost occurs, or equipment problems, via cell phone and email. To view real time data, Onset offers HOBOlink, a web-enabled software platform. HOBOlink allows users to access current and historical data, set alarm notifications and relay activations, and manage and control HOBO U30 Frost Alarm Systems right from their desktop. For more information, call 800-LOGGERS, or visit www.onsetcomp.com/frost.

UTILITY TRACTORS--John Deere introduces the new 6D Series of utility tractors, which builds on the popular 6003 Series Tractors. The top three models are powered by a 4.5L PowerTech E diesel engine with a high-pressure common rail (HPCR) injection system. The transmission has been improved with the new 9F/9R electro-hydraulic PowrReverser as standard equipment. A new wet-clutch design ensures reliable, long life with improved control. The new design also helps overall tractor performance for the many jobs required of a utility tractor. Other features include an exclusive telescopic/tilt steering wheel which can be set for ideal positioning for any operator height and a high-capacity air conditioning/heating system to keep the operator comfortable in all weather conditions. An optional two-function mechanical joystick is available for optimum loader operation. For more information, call a local John Deere dealer, or visit www.JohnDeere.com/Ag.

DISC MOWER--Case IH, Racine, Wis., offers the shock protection system standard on key models of mowers, mower conditioners and mower conditioner header products. This system replaces the drive hub of discs with a shock hub, making in-field repairs fast and easy after encountering field obstructions. The shock hub 'takes the blow' from collisions with rocks and debris while protecting the internal components of the cutterbed. Shock hubs are now standard on: MD Series disc mowers, DC Series disc mower conditioners, RD Series mower conditioner headers, and TD102 pull-type disc mowers. For more information, call 1-877-4CASEIH or visit www.caseih.com/na.

Technology aids precise application of inputs

Valley Irrigation, Valley, Neb., has introduced its first line of GPS Ready irrigation control panels. The GPS Ready PRO2 Pivot Control Panel and GPS Ready AutoPilot Linear Control Panel currently are available from Valley dealers. The GPS Ready Select2 Pivot Control Panel will be available later this year.

"All of our computerized control panels will be GPS Ready, which means producers will be able to easily take advantage of the benefits of GPS technology," explained Rich Panowicz, manager, Valley Irrigation aftermarket sales and product management.

The GPS Ready control panels from Valley Irrigation differ from other control panels on the market because they perform all of the necessary GPS position calculations right in the control panel, therefore eliminating the need for external computers on the machine.

They also are compatible with different types of GPS receivers, including WAAS-enabled receivers. This means producers can pick the GPS receiver with the accuracies necessary to meet the required management needs.

GPS technology allows irrigators to correlate production techniques with land variability, ultimately minimizing costs and maximizing yields.

Instead of applying the same amount of water, fertilizer and other inputs to an entire field, producers can program the panel to apply different levels of inputs within the same field, based on data the GPS receiver collects and feeds to the control panel. In turn, producers don't have to invest in applying inputs where they aren't needed and crops have the potential to yield better with better management tools in hands of the producer.

For more information, call a local Valley Irrigation dealer, or visit www.valmont.com.
