PARTNERSHIP--Leica Geosystems and TeeJet Technologies will now combine Leica's high-accuracy GNSS and auto-guidance systems with TeeJet's guidance and material application solutions to provide a broader array of customized options for farmers. Under the agreement, TeeJet will private-label and distribute Leica's No-Drift mojoRTK auto-steer system adding RTK-accuracy guidance to its suite of precision agriculture products. Under the same agreement Leica will capitalize on TeeJet Technologies' range of vehicle-specific assisted steering kits to vastly increase the number of tractors the mojoRTK can steer. The list of kits offered by TeeJet currently tops more than 50 individual kits, designed to fit approximately 150 individual vehicle models. The companies also plan to work together to develop additional solutions for the agriculture market. For more information, call 630-517-1308 or visit www.teejet.com.
THEFT DETERRENT--Lindsay Corporation, Omaha, Neb., introduces the CopperCuff, a solution to prevent the theft of valuable copper wire from center pivots. CopperCuff is designed to fit all major brands of irrigation systems and locks the pivot's cables in place, making it difficult for would-be thieves to steal the copper wire. The 11-gauge, galvanized steel band encircles the pipe and securely clamps down the copper cable. With multiple cuffs on each span, criminals would quickly realize they would not be able to strip the system without a great amount of time and effort. CopperCuff will be inexpensive compared to the average costs of repairing a theft-damaged pivot. The new theft deterrent device is also easy to install--taking under one hour to complete a quarter-mile pivot instead of one day to repair spans that have seen criminal activity. Defoliant registered for use in cotton
Syngenta Crop Protection, Greensboro, N.C., has announced Cyclone Star herbicide recently received federal registration for use in cotton from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as state registrations in Texas and Oklahoma. Combining the harvest aid partners of Gramoxone Inteon and Aim herbicides, Cyclone Star delivers the one-two punch that cotton growers need to effectively defoliate their crop and keep regrowth at bay.
"Cyclone Star utilizes the same proven chemistries that growers have come to know and trust in Gramoxone Inteon and Aim herbicides," said Stephanie Schwenke, Syngenta brand manager. "This combination offers growers a new economical tool at harvest, providing fast, effective defoliation with the added benefit of inhibited regrowth." In addition, Cyclone Star allows growers to get an earlier start at harvest, results in fewer stuck leaves and offers trash-free yields.
Cyclone Star should be applied as a harvest aid to defoliate and desiccate cotton and take down troublesome weeds that may be present at harvest. The Cyclone Star two-chamber jug is conveniently designed for application on either eight or ten acres per container. Cyclone Star may be used alone or as a tank mixture with other cotton harvest aids. Always use 0.25% v/v NIS with Cyclone Star.

Herbicide receives federal label registration for use on spring wheat
New GoldSky herbicide has received federal registration for use in spring wheat, Dow AgroSciences announced. GoldSky delivers excellent control of tough grass weeds, including wild oat and yellow foxtail, and suppression of green foxtail. In addition to grass control, GoldSky also controls a broad spectrum of broadleaf weeds, such as kochia, wild mustard and wild buckwheat.
GoldSky is the sixth new herbicide product Dow AgroSciences has brought to the wheat market since 2004.
The new product delivers control of difficult grasses in spring wheat, including yellow foxtail and wild oats--even ACCase-resistant wild oats. GoldSky also controls a broad spectrum of tough broadleaf weeds, including kochia, wild mustard, pigweed, lambsquarters, wild buckwheat and Russian thistle.
In 2007 field trials conducted in the northern Plains, GoldSky herbicide provided excellent control of wild oats and yellow foxtail compared with commonly used grass weed treatments in spring wheat. GoldSky also delivered outstanding control of multiple broadleaf weeds compared with industry standards.
GoldSky offers growers complete rotational flexibility to crops like field corn, sorghum, canola, potatoes, peas, lentils, sugarbeets, soybeans and sunflowers the next growing season. Most crops commonly grown in rotation with wheat may be grown 9 months following an application of GoldSky.
Growers can apply GoldSky postemergence to actively growing spring wheat from the three-leaf to the jointing stage with excellent crop safety. Brett Oemichen, Crop Protection Field R&D Specialist for Dow AgroSciences, recommends applying 1 pint per acre of GoldSky herbicide to wild oats and foxtail between the two-leaf and two-tiller stage of growth and to broadleaf weeds before they exceed 2 inches in height or 2 inches in diameter for best results.
