2nd Annual FFA Agricultural Safety and Health Video Contest
The Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH) would like to announce the 2nd Annual FFA Agricultural Safety and Health Video Contest . CS-CASH is a non-profit organization affiliated with the University of Nebraska College of Public Health www.unmc.edu/publichealth/cscash . The mission of CS-CASH is to work with the agricultural community in the Midwest and beyond, conducting research, intervention, education, and outreach activities. CS-CASH is striving to discover the mechanisms of injury and illness, and to develop, implement, and evaluate prevention strategies that will improve the health and safety of members of the agricultural community.
In 2013 CS-CASH introduced an Agricultural Safety and Health Video Contest for FFA students on the topic of “Agricultural related hearing loss is preventable”. The videos received over 2200 votes. Each FFA student that participated in creating a video received a pair of ear muffs and other safety related items. Winners of the cash prizes were:

Feedback from 2013 contest participants.
- In a survey of participating students– 92% said that they would participate in the contest again if asked and 95% said that they learned new information about hearing loss during the process of making the videos.
- Advisor feedback: “Thank you for your generous support! My students learned in making the video and the community awareness has been elevated!” “Thank you very much for your efforts in getting my students excited about a contest and getting on and voting. I would say that my students (as well as people in my e-mail contacts list) have become more aware of hearing loss and hearing protection. This was a great educational tool for me to get students to utilize technology, and research to produce their video.”
Our Outreach efforts this year are focused on reducing injuries and fatalities on the farm and ranch. This video contest is open to FFA students in our 7 states region (MO, KS, IA, NE, MN, SD, and ND). We are asking the students, under the direction of the their advisor, to produce a 60 second or less video that discusses the fact that agricultural related injuries and fatalities can be prevented. We are offering $1000, $500, $250 and $100 to the top 4 videos with the most views. Every student that participates in the production of a video will receive personal protective equipment.
Please consider having your FFA students enter a video. This project will provide education regarding injury prevention not only to the students but also to the public who will be viewing the videos. Attached please find a flyer with the contest details. Please email or call me with any questions or concerns.
