The Atwood FFA chapter has a rich history, beginning October 9th, 1929 and continuing to today. The Atwood chapter is part of Rawlins County High School in Atwood, Kansas, located in the northwest corner of the state in the scenic Beaver Valley. RCHS is a 2A school with 110 students, 52 enrolled in ag classes and 42 in FFA.
Classes offered include Ag Science, Animal Science, Ag Communications, Ag Mechanics, Ag Structures, Ag Fabrication, Horticulture, Horticulture Lab, and Ag OJT. The ag facilities include a large classroom, spacious shop, an attached 30 x 36 greenhouse, and 16 laptop computers.
The chapter is supported by the Atwood FFA Backers, a local group of adults that provides support in the way of funding and helping with activities. A signature activity of the chapter is our Career Fair held during FFA week that brings in over 30 exhibitors for junior high and high school students from area schools. The chapter is also known for delicious BBQ, serving numerous local functions each year.
The Atwood Chapter is the home of 8 past state officers, a past national officer, numerous district officers, an American Star Farmer, state and national proficiency award winners, and a lot of great members.
