Career Development Events

For students who ask their teachers "When will I ever use this in the real world?" Career Development Events (CDEs) are the answer. Since 1928, FFA has worked to create CDEs that demonstrate the meaningful connections between classroom instruction and real-life scenarios CDEs build on what is learned in agricultural classes and the FFA. The events are designed to help prepare students for careers in agriculture. Classroom instruction comes alive as students demonstrate their skills in a competitive setting. CDEs test the abilities of individuals and teams in 23 major areas of agricultural instruction.

All chapters must participate at the district level in the career development areas they wish to participate in at the State Educational CDE's in Agriculture.

  1. The State Educational Career Development Events in Agriculture are held each spring on Kansas State University campus in Manhattan.
  2. If your chapter does not participate in a district contest your chapter is not eligible to participate in that event on the state level. We understand that there are districts that do not host certain events but it is important that the students participating in State CDE's have prior knowledge and experience in the events they participate in at KSU.
  3. The team plaques and individual medals are sponsored by the Manhattan Convention & Visitors Bureau and the KSU Ag Alumni.
  4. CDE's scheduled to be conducted are: Ag Business Management; Ag Communication; Ag Issues; Ag Technology Management; Crops (visit the KSU Agronomy webpage); Dairy Cattle; Dairy Foods; Entomology; Floriculture; Food Science; Horse; Livestock; Meats; Nursery /Landscape; and Poultry.
  5. Details of each event are mailed to all FFA chapters in the fall and posted online at http://www.ksre.ksu.edu/ffa_cde/Default.aspx .
