"Genuinely Better" Scholarship Opportunity
Cargill, Kansas FFA Offer Students a "Genuinely Better" Scholarship Opportunity
Cargill and the Kansas FFA Foundation are working together to provide university students in Kansas a scholarship opportunity that includes real world experience and financial support for college.
The fifth annual Genuinely Better scholarship program will award one $1,500 scholarship, three $1,000 scholarships, and two $600 scholarships to incoming college sophomore, junior, and senior level students who are actively involved in improving their school, community and the agricultural industry.
Students awarded scholarships are expected to spend time during the week of January 9, 2012, shadowing professionals at Cargill Meat Solutions headquarters in Wichita. Last year, the Genuinely Better scholarship recipients shadowed in the following departments: marketing, technical services, operations, cattle feeders and pork. Students also met with business leaders and toured the company's culinary center and Dodge City meat processing facility.
Scholarship applicants must be sophomore, junior, or senior status by hours, enrolled at a four-year Kansas University, and also a current or former FFA member. Applicants must plan to enroll in undergraduate or graduate courses during the Spring 2012 Semester. The selection committee will look for students who are active in their school, community, and agricultural industry and show an attitude and responsibility of being genuinely better. To apply, students must electronically submit one copy of their resume, one copy of their most recent University transcript, one letter of reference, and a 750-word essay highlighting American agriculture's role in food safety.
Applications must be electronically received by the Kansas FFA Foundation no later than Friday, September 16. Students can electronically submit .pdf files to kerry.wefald@ksffa.org with GENUINELY BETTER in the subject line.
Scholarship interviews will be held in Manhattan during the week of October 10. Cargill Meat Solutions on-site visits will be scheduled during the week of January 9, 2012. Information about the scholarship program and application guidelines are available at www.ksffa.org.
