Wet weather influences grain bids
Grains inspected for export for week ending April 24: Wheat totaled 18.9 million bushels, down 4.9 million bushels; corn 34.9 million bushels, down 5.9 million bushels; sorghum 3.7 million bushels, down 3.5 million bushels; and soybeans 14.2 million bushels, down 6.9 million bushels compared to a week ago. Year to date: Wheat totaled 1125.2 million bushels up 332.5 million; corn 1648.7 million bushels up 260.0 million; sorghum 222.9 million bushels up 124.6 million and soybeans 907.2 million...
Nebraska Corn Board 30 year report looks at connecting markets
Nebraska corn producers are connected to markets throughout Nebraska and the world. "For 30 years now, the Nebraska Corn Board has managed corn producers' checkoff contributions with the vision of creating new markets, expanding new uses and enhancing the profitability of corn producers. "For three decades, Nebraska corn checkoff dollars have strived to connect corn producers to their customers, new products, research and Capitol Hill," Hutchens said.
Most of the state gets some rain
Sorghum planting neared completion in South Texas, and planting continued in the Southern Low Plains and the Cross Timbers. Rice planting continued in South Central Texas and the Upper coast. Pecan trees began to leaf out in the Blacklands and the Southern High Plains, while the trees were flowering in the Trans-Pecos, Edwards Plateau, and South Central Texas.
Late April rain, snow slows fieldwork
Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of April 25 were rated 0 percent very short, 3 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 37 percent surplus. Land prepared for soybeans was 1 percent complete compared to 5 percent last year and 10 percent average. Spring wheat was 6 percent planted compared to 15 percent last year and 33 percent average.

Insecticide receives label expansion for soybeans
FMC Corporation, Philadelphia, recently announced its Hero insecticide has received an expanded label that allows it to be used to control foliar pests in soybeans and root and tuber crops. Hero uses unique pyrethroid technology, and can control mites as well as other foliar insects. Insecticide approved for use on soybeans, cotton
Bayer CropScience, Research Triangle Park, N.C., now offers Leverage 2.7SE insecticide for use on soybeans. With two modes of action and a broad spectrum of protection, Leverage 2.7 controls many pests, including soybean aphid, bean leaf beetle, Japanese beetle and corn rootworm beetles. Leverage 2.7 uses Stress Shield technology that protects the plant from environmental stresses that reduce plant vigor and yield.
Grain market close
1 hard red winter wheat, ordinary protein, northwest Colorado was 22 cents lower. 2 yellow corn in north central Colorado was mostly 9 cents lower and $5.43 to $5.95 per bushel. 2 yellow sorghum in southeast Colorado was 16 cents lower at $9.13 to $9.48 per cwt.
Early soybean seeding yields best results
Early seeding allows soybean producers to increase yields while reducing seeding rates, said a University of Nebraska-Lincoln specialist. "We used to plant soybeans quite a bit later than we do now, but recent research shows that we get a real advantage in early seeding of soybeans," said Bob Klein, cropping systems specialist at UNL's West Central Research and Extension Center. Crop progress well behind normal pace
Winter wheat condition for the state is rated 5 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 5 percent excellent, little change from last week. Nine percent is planted, over a week behind normal, while there is no emergence this year, when 18 percent is normally emerged by this date. Pasture condition is rated 3 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
