As long as there have been diesel engines, there has been dark black exhaust.
Now, clean technology has become standard on every type of diesel vehicle, including modern farm machinery.
This new technology is out to reduce particulate matter and nitrous oxide by as much as 96 percent, compared with previous diesel engines, according to the Diesel Technology Forum, an industry organization.
The technology is tied together in three parts under federal air quality standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that apply to new diesel engines used in off-road equipment: cleaner diesel fuel, advanced engine technology and after treatment.
