Beef cow-calf producers who want to develop a reputation as a producer of cattle that do well in the feedlot and on the rail should consider entering the upcoming Missouri Steer Feedout. Despite that dollar loss, some of the participants discovered they had steers that gained above average in the Tri-County Steer Carcass Futurity in southwest Iowa. Cattle on feed numbers released

Cattle feeders with 1,000 head or larger capacity marketed an estimated 150,000 head of fed cattle during April 2013. An estimated 140,000 cattle and calves were placed on feed during April, 15 percent below a month ago but 17 percent above April 2012 placements of 120,000. Placements during April totaled 140,000 head, an increase of 7 percent from last month and up 32 percent from last year. [Read More]
