VERTICAL TILLAGE--New from Great Plains is the 5000 series Turbo-Chisel. This unit offers the flexibility to till up to 12 inches deep. If your goal is to size and incorporate residue in the top 4 to 5 inches of top soil and leave the soil level enough for a single pass tool in the spring, this is ideal. Great Plains exclusive 22-inch Turbo coulters on 7 1/2-inch spacing start the process by slicing residue. The 22-inch blades run on a 1 3/4-inch gang bolt with cast spools, putting the weight "in the gang" for good performance and reliability. The gang bearings are field proven 211 rubber mounted bearings with cast housings mounted to heavy duty 1x3-inch "C" Shank standards. The coulter bar in hydraulically adjustable for on-the-go depth control. For more information, call a local Great Plains dealer, or visit www.greatplainsmjg.com.

STRAP TIGHTENING--The QuikCinch Strap Tightener, manufactured and sold by Precision Products for Industry, Inc. (PPFI), significantly reduces strap-tightening time to secure loads on flatbed trailers. The QuikCinch is a patent-pending invention that replaces the conventional winch bar for tightening nylon webbing straps around winches to secure loads. Unlike a winch bar, the cup-shaped QuikCinch does not have to be inserted into a winch hole, pulled down, then removed and repositioned to tighten down each strap. Instead, a central shaft on the tool slips into opposing holes on a winch cylinder. The round end-plate of the tool has a square receiver for a three-quarter-inch socket wrench. The ratcheting motion of the socket wrench turns the winch and tightens the strap. For more information, call 719-337-19044, or visit www.QuikCinch.com.

EGR ENGINES--John Deere will use cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) engines with exhaust filters consisting of a diesel oxidation catalyst/diesel particulate filter in its construction equipment to meet the 2011 Interim Tier 4 (iT4)/Stage III B emissions regulations mandated by the EPA and EU for diesel engines 174 hp and above. Deere's approach to the iT4 solution builds upon the current clean burning and fuel efficient Tier3/Stage III A PowerTech Plus engine platform manufactured by John Deere Power Systems. Two-section planter unveiled

Kinze Manufacturing recently unveiled its new 3660 TS Two-Section Twin-Line Planter. This new planter configuration is available in 12- and 16-row sizes and comes with two section (TS) manual half-width disconnect of right and left sections from the tractor cab.

It is equipped with many standard features to fit every operation, including the Kinze Cobalt monitoring system with color touch-screen display and the Kinze Air Seed Delivery (ASD) system, which features two centrally mounted 55 bushel hoppers (110 bushel total capacity) that distribute seed to individual row units using air pressure.

It is available with either mechanical seed or with vacuum seed metering system. The planter's electrically operated half-width disconnect point-row clutches provide manual shut-off of right and left sections. It has a three-section frame that provides more flexibility compared to traditional Twin-Line designs, allowing for 13 degrees up and down movement (approximately six additional degrees more up and down movement than other Twin-Line designs).

A hydraulic weight transfer mechanism that keeps the toolbar even and prevents the wings from rising out of the ground, while maintaining consistent seed trench depth. It also boasts a frame that transports as narrow as 11 feet, 2 inches, for better access to and from the field. It can be equipped with Interplant push-row units or a liquid fertilizer package with a total capacity of 550 gallons.

The 3660 TS planter also features the clean toolbar design that is a trademark of Kinze planters. The vacuum manifolds have been integrated into the toolbar, and hydraulic and electrical lines have been encased for protection and organization. The planter has a single motor, variable-rate hydraulic driveline to allow for the adjustment of planting rates from the tractor seat.

The planter is available with an optional breakaway row marker package, as well. This is a new design that allows row markers to fold back when they hit an obstruction. The marker is returned to service again by replacing two shear-bolts.

For more information, call a local Kinze dealer, or visit www.kinze.com.
