ELECTRONIC EAR TAG--EZid, a division of Avid Identification Systems, announces the U.S. release of its EZid HDX Electronic Ear Tag for cattle. The use of HDX technology delivers the industry's longest read distance. Unlike other tags on the market, the design of the EZid tag delivers maximum read performance from the side--allowing for easier, faster scans when using handheld or stationary readers The tag contains an ISO HDX transponder molded into an easy-to-read tag that features a unique identification number. These tags work with any ISO compliant HDX/FDX reader, making them easy to implement. For more information, call 970-351-7701, or visit www.EZidAvid.com.

New sunflower hybrids available
Producers can count on more oil per acre from the six new hybrids Mycogen Seeds has added to its sunflower portfolio for 2010. These high-performance hybrids offer the industry leading technology, with options for downy mildew (DM) resistance, CLEARFIELD herbicide technology or both.
The new sunflower hybrids include:
--8N270CLDM is Mycogen Seeds' earliest CLEARFIELD hybrid with genetic resistance to DM. Its appearance, yield, plant health, and root- and stalk-lodging characteristics are similar to 8N270. This hybrid is well-suited for the NuSun oil, bird food and hulling markets.
--A full-season, DM-resistant hybrid, 8N433DM is a medium-tall plant with excellent tolerance to root lodging. It features very good oil content and a solid NuSun oil profile with oleic acid levels in the mid-60s.
--8H288CLDM is an early maturing high oleic hybrid with genetic resistance to all known U.S. races of DM and CLEARFIELD herbicide technology. Medium-short plants produce good yields of very high oil content seed. 8H288CLDM also has superior drydown characteristics.
--Hybrid 8H419CLDM provides genetic resistance to all known U.S. DM races. This medium full-season hybrid is widely adapted when planted in a timely manner, and offers additional protection with the built-in CLEARFIELD trait. 8H419CLDM is a DM-resistant version of 8H419CL.
--8H449CLDM is a CLEARFIELD version of hybrid 8H449DM with genetic resistance to all U.S. DM races. This mid- to late-oleic hybrid yields excellent oil content and very high oleic levels.
--An early NuSun hybrid that combines DM resistance and the CLEARFIELD trait, 8N358CLDM is a medium height, mid-season hybrid with good drydown characteristics. Suited for shorter growing seasons in Northern regions, this hybrid is proven to deliver high oil levels.

Australian green feed system launches in U.S.
An award-winning Australian technology that produces nutritious green feed for livestock in just six days is debuting in the United States.
Fodder Solutions has sold more than 300 climate controlled growing chambers to farmers across Australia, enabling them to transform grain seed and water into highly palatable feed harvested fresh daily, regardless of seasonal conditions.
All classes of livestock love the densely matted sprouts which they devour roots and all with no waste. Systems are being used to feed beef and dairy cattle, horses, sheep, goats, free range pigs and even rabbits.
Animals on a sprout diet gain condition and are healthier, with enhanced breeding performance reported.
Now the system is being introduced to the U.S. market with a manufacturing facility established at Oxnard near Los Angeles, Calif.
A Fodder Solutions principle and co-inventor of the system Terry Colless oversaw the American market expansion with a launch and demonstration at the recent U.S. Agricultural Media Summit in Fort Worth, Texas. The Summit was held in conjunction with the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists World Congress.
Colless says things have moved quickly since an overwhelming level of interest was received at the World Agricultural Expo in Tulare, Calif., in February.
"From the number of inquiries we received, there is no doubt U.S. farmers will be extremely receptive to our system of growing low cost green feed using very little water," Colless said. "We will be manufacturing units in a range of sizes from 12 to 72 trays capable of producing 90 pounds to 520 pounds of sprouts daily."
In Australia the company has built a large scale demonstration unit called the Automatic Paddock which operates hydraulically and unloads more than three tons of feed a day at the touch of a button.
The first U.S. producer to use Fodder Solutions technology in commercial production will be Californian organic milk producer Bill Van Ryn. He has relocated the 72 tray system built in Australia and shipped out for the Agricultural Expo to his farm near Modesto.
Van Ryn is extremely enthusiastic about the natural feeding system and plans to use two units to complement pasture for 300 milking cows, eliminating an expensive grain-based feed mix from their diet.
North American dealer applications are currently being accepted. On-site demonstrations may be available upon request.
