Valley Irrigation, Valley, Nebraska, is putting the latest soil moisture monitoring technology into the hands of growers with Valley SoilPro 1200, powered by AquaSpy. SoilPro 1200 delivers detailed soil moisture data in an easy-to-understand format. Growers can see the depth of their crop root zone, soil moisture levels by depth, soil electrical conductivity, temperature, and water penetration from rainfall and irrigation. SoilPro 1200 has 12 sensors at 4-inch increments that communicate with crop roots and collect data from the soil about how much water the crop needs and how much it has used. Information gathered by sensors is analyzed and converted into reports and recommendations delivered to growers via computer, tablet or cell phone. Vaccine helps provide respiratory protection
Zoetis has added One Shot BVD to its comprehensive vaccine portfolio.
The new vaccine offered by the Florham Park, New Jersey company, helps provide combined respiratory protection against Mannheimia haemolytica and bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) Types 1 and 2 viruses in a single dose.
One Shot BVD helps cattle producers expand respiratory vaccination programs that include Inforce 3 respiratory vaccine, which is used to help protect beef and dairy calves.
Young calves need additional respiratory protection due to underdeveloped immune systems and exposure to environmental stressors, which can cause them to fall victim to respiratory infection.
As the second-most significant disease impacting dairy operations and the leading cause of death in beef calves between 3 weeks of age and weaning, BRD can negatively impact the health, productivity and profitability of young calves.
One Shot BVD is available in 10- or 50-dose vials and can be purchased through veterinarians or animal health retailers.

Producers can recoup spring parasite control investment
Merial, Duluth, Georgia, has introduced the Longrange (eprinomectin)/Ivomec (ivermectin) Spring Challenge.
To help promote greater profits and optimize herd health in 2014, Merial will help take on some of the production risks.
Producers will benefit from taking advantage of the Longrange/Ivomec Challenge with a way to ensure spring parasite control pays.
Longrange is the first extended-release injectable cattle dewormer that provides cattle producers season-long persistent parasite control for up to 100 to 150 days in a single dose, depending on the parasite species. To participate in the challenge, producers simply purchase Longrange between Jan. 1 and June 30, and treat their cows and calves with it this spring.
If the improvement in average weaning weight of the calves versus fall 2013 does not cover the purchase price of Longrange, Merial will provide an equal amount of doses of Longrange or equal value of any Merial Ivomec brand products of the producer’s choice for fall 2014.
If producers are not ready to step up to Longrange, they can take the Spring Challenge with any Ivomec brand product and save with valuable rebates.
