Upside Down Cherry Cobbler

Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup margarine
1 cup flour, sifted
2 teaspoons double acting baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1 can sour red cherries, pitted













Directions: Thoroughly cream together margarine and 1/2 cup sugar. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually, add milk, mixing thoroughly. Spread batter in greased 8 or 9 inch baking dish. Distribute cherries evenly over batter. Pour cherry liquid on. Sprinkle cherries with remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Bake in oven preheated to 375°F about 45 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve plain, warm or cold, with ice cream or whipped cream on top.
