Waffles and White Sauce
Chef:  Karen Mills - Lake City, ks          Category:  Breads

Ingredients:
3 cups sifted flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
3 eggs, seperated
2 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup melted margarine
3 cups milk
3/4 cups sugar
4 rounded tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions: Sift first four ingredients together. In a large bowl beat egg whites until stiff. In another bowl mix egg yolks with 2 1/2 cups milk and melted margarine; add dry ingredients. Mix well. Fold in egg whites by hand. Bake in a hot waffle iron. SAUCE: Heat 3 cups milk. Mix flour and sugar with a little cold milk and add to the hot milk. Cook until thickened. Remove; add vanilla and serve over hot waffles.

Notes: This recipe is an old family favorite. It is a German Mennonite recipe. My husband and son will not eat waffles without this sauce.
