Bran Bread or Rolls

Ingredients:
1 cup bran cereal
1/2 cup sugar
2/3 cup shortening
1 cup warm milk
1 cup boiling water
2 packages yeast, dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
2 eggs
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup whole wheat flour
5 or 6 cups white flour










Directions: Pour boiling water over bran, sugar salt and shortening. Cool. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add bran mixture. Add warm milk and eggs. Mix well. Add wheat flour then white flour until mixture is not too sticky. Do not add too much flour. Needs to be just past the sticky stage to knead for about 10 minutes. Let rise overnight in refrigerator or may let rise at room temperature until doubled in bulk. Punch down and make into bread loaves or into rolls. Works well for either rolls or loaves of bread. Use 7-1/2x3-3/4x2 inch bread pans, which makes 5 loaves that size. Bake 20 - 30 minutes at 350°F oven after letting rise until light, an hour or two. Bake rolls 15 minutes at 350°F, after letting rise until double.

Notes: Grandkids really enjoy eating these rolls!
