The abundance of artistic talent is evident from the young artists across the country who created their rendition of "Old Time Christmas" for the 2009 High Plains/Midwest Ag Journal Christmas Card Contest.

Ethan Nelson’s watercolor depiction of a western winter scene is the grand prize winner of the 2009 Christmas Artwork Contest. Ethan’s entry will become the official 2009 High Plains/Midwest Ag Journal Christmas card and will receive $250.

Nelson is from Dalton, Neb., where he is in the seventh grade at Leyton Jr. High School. He enjoys drawing, being outdoors, wildlife, computer games and is actively involved in several 4-H projects.

Phillips is home-schooled and her favorite subject is art. In her spare time, she enjoys her cows and horses and is involved in 4-H shooting sports. She is a young entrepreneur, raising Chinese Crested dogs.

Unger is in first grade at Maryetta School where his favorite subjects are math and art. He enjoys baseball, drawing, and fishing with his father and brother. He also enjoys the farm with his grandparents and playing with the puppies at his family’s kennel.

Hallows is in kindergarten at Rees Elementary School. She enjoys reading and art. Some of her favorite activities are playing piano, dancing, singing, coloring and drawing.
