McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,575 head on May 6, compared to 1,050 head last week and 1,100 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, the steer calves were selling $2 to $5 higher and the heifer calves were selling $1 to $4 higher. The quality was average through attractive. The demand was good. The supply included 30% weighing more than 600 pounds and 44% were heifers. The slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower. The slaughter bulls were $5 higher. The packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 270 cows and bulls was sold with 61% going to packers.
